Pastor Demetrius A. Greer
Demetrius A. Greer
M.Div. (Duke University)
Pastor Greer is a spirit-led and ordained preacher who has greater than 20 years of practical ecumenical experience. Rev. Greer has been involved in youth ministry leadership since 1995 (e.g., Sunday School, Bible studies, Single-N-Saved Ministry, music ministry, summer camps, tutoring and mentoring).
As a minister-practitioner, Elder Greer desires to use his education and ministerial experience to impact both the Church and the world it is seeks to serve. Rev. Greer feels especially called to work with college students, families in general, and fathers in particular. Since 2006, he has served as a spiritual mentor to several undergraduate and graduate students—shepherding them through life crises that can arrive during the college experience.
Pastor Greer aims to nurture and empower all people that he encounters to live into the reality of their true identity in Christ (see Colossians 3:1-3). One way he does this is as a caregiver of the Kerygma: “the proclamation of the Gospel” – the good news of Christ crucified, risen and coming again to transform human affairs. According to Elder Greer, “Preaching Christ extends the Christ-event into the lives of both the faithful and the unsaved. Indeed, Jesus is THE answer for the world today!”
In addition to ordained Christian ministry, Rev. Greer currently serves as an academic advisor in the Reed College of Media at West Virginia University. Greer joined WVU in August 2013 and works primarily with first-time freshmen and first-generation students. He created and oversees the MOVE (Motivating Others Via Engagement) Peer Mentoring Program for the college.
Before coming to WVU, Greer worked as a Behavioral Health Technician and Music Counselor in a youth residential treatment facility in Rockford, IL. He has experience as an academic counselor and instructor (Northern Illinois University), a case manager for specialized foster care children, and as a drug addiction counselor.
Pastor Greer is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and holds Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees in psychology from Kishwaukee College and Northern Illinois University, respectively. Greer also earned a Master of Divinity degree from Duke University in 2012. Rev. Greer is married to Jennifer Greer and they are the proud parents of Gabriella Grace Greer.
