Henderson Chapel AME's Mission
The Mission of the AME Church is to minister to the social, spiritual, and physical development of all people.
Return To The Sanctuary
Must continue encouraging all congregants to become fully vaccinated,
and to establish and communicate responsible expected behaviors to those who gather for worship.
In 1898, Henderson Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church was organized under the leadership of Bishop B.W. Arnette. The bishop commissioned Rev. Bridges to organize an A.M.E. Church in Wellsburg. Rev. Bridges, missionaries John and Crissy Mashon, and a group of local people attended that first meeting.
Bishop Daniel A. Payne proposed to the 1856 General Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church convening in Cincinnati, Ohio that the episcopal seal should include the denominational creedal statement, God Our Father, Christ Our Redeemer, Man Our Brother.
